In her unforgettable memoir, All But My Life, Gerda Weissmann Klein shares her extraordinary story of survival, resilience, and hope.
Gerda was born into a wealthy Jewish family in Bielsko, Poland, in 1924. Her idyllic childhood was shattered by the outbreak of World War II in 1939. In 1942, Gerda and her family were forced into a ghetto, and in 1944, they were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Gerda endured unimaginable horrors in Auschwitz. She was subjected to starvation, torture, and forced labor. She witnessed the death of her parents and countless other innocent people.
Despite the unspeakable suffering she endured, Gerda never lost her hope. She clung to the belief that she would one day be free. In 1945, Gerda was liberated from Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.
After the war, Gerda immigrated to the United States, where she met and married Kurt Klein. Together, they raised a family and dedicated their lives to fighting hatred and intolerance.
Gerda became a renowned author and speaker. She shared her story with audiences around the world, inspiring hope and understanding. She also founded the Gerda Weissmann Klein Foundation, which promotes peace and tolerance education.
Gerda Weissmann Klein's story is a testament to the human spirit's ability to overcome adversity. All But My Life Memoir is a powerful and moving account of survival, resilience, and hope.
