Early Life and Career

Pat Garrett was born in Chambers County, Alabama, in 1850. His family moved to Texas when he was a young boy. After the Civil War, Garrett worked as a cowboy in New Mexico Territory. In 1878, he was elected sheriff of Lincoln County, New Mexico.

The Lincoln County War was a range war that took place in Lincoln County, New Mexico, from 1878 to 1879. Garrett was involved in the war on the side of the Murphy-Dolan faction. He played a key role in the pursuit and capture of Billy the Kid.

In 1881, Garrett was elected sheriff of Doña Ana County, New Mexico. He served in this position until 1884. In 1885, he was appointed as a U.S. Marshal for the Territory of New Mexico.

The Killing of Billy the Kid

Billy the Kid was a notorious outlaw who terrorized the people of Lincoln County, New Mexico. In 1881, Garrett tracked down Billy the Kid and killed him in a shootout in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. Garrett's killing of Billy the Kid made him a national hero.

However, Garrett's killing of Billy the Kid has been the subject of much debate. Some historians believe that Garrett murdered Billy the Kid in cold blood. Others believe that Garrett was justified in killing Billy the Kid because he was a dangerous outlaw.

Later Life and Death

After killing Billy the Kid, Garrett continued to serve as a lawman in the American West. He was involved in several other shootouts and manhunts. In 1908, Garrett was assassinated by a former friend, Jesse Wayne Brazel.

Pat Garrett is a complex and controversial figure. He was a brave and determined lawman who played a key role in bringing Free Download to the Wild West. However, he was also a ruthless and violent man who killed many people. Garrett's legacy is still debated today, but there is no doubt that he was one of the most fascinating characters in the history of the American West.
