Paul Robeson: The Artist As Revolutionary Paul Robeson: The Artist As Revolutionary (Revolutionary Lives)

Paul Robeson was born in Princeton, New Jersey, in 1898. His father was a former slave who became a minister, and his mother was a teacher. Robeson was a gifted student and athlete, and he graduated from Rutgers University with honors in 1919. After college, Robeson moved to New York City to pursue a career in law. However, he soon realized that his true passion was music. In 1925, he made his debut as a singer at the prestigious Carnegie Hall. Robeson's powerful voice and charismatic stage presence quickly made him a star.

In the 1930s, Robeson began to use his music to speak out against social injustice. He sang songs about the struggles of African Americans, and he became a vocal critic of racism and segregation. Robeson's activism made him a target of the FBI, and he was blacklisted from Hollywood in the 1950s. However, he continued to perform and speak out against injustice, and he became a symbol of the civil rights movement.

Paul Robeson was a brilliant artist and a passionate activist. He used his art to fight for social justice, and he helped to shape American culture. This book tells the story of his life and work, and explores his impact on American culture.
