Bass Reeves, A Former Slave Who Became One Of The Most Successful Lawmen In The Wild West The Legend Of Bass Reeves

Bass Reeves was born into slavery in Arkansas in 1838. He escaped to Indian Territory in 1862 and joined the Union Army. After the war, he worked as a deputy U.S. marshal for the Western District of Arkansas. Reeves was a skilled tracker and marksman, and he quickly became one of the most successful lawmen in the territory.

Reeves arrested over 3,000 criminals during his career, including some of the most notorious outlaws in the West. He was also known for his fairness and compassion, and he often went out of his way to help people in need. Reeves retired from law enforcement in 1907, and he died in 1910.
