"That's snow, Zack," his mom said. "It's frozen water that falls from the sky when it's very cold."
Zack had never seen snow before, and he was fascinated. He reached out and touched it with his nose. It was cold and wet, but it felt good on his skin.
"Can I play in the snow, Mom?" Zack asked.
"Of course you can," his mom said. "But be careful. Snow can be slippery."
Zack ran outside and started to play in the snow. He made snowballs and threw them at his friends. He built a snowman and even went sledding. Zack had so much fun playing in the snow that he didn't want to come inside when it was time for dinner.
"I love snow!" Zack said. "It's so much fun."
Zack's mom smiled. "I'm glad you're having fun, Zack," she said. "But it's getting late. It's time for you to come inside and get warm."
Zack sighed and followed his mom inside. He was tired from playing in the snow, but he was also very happy. He had had a wonderful day exploring the first snow.
