Gavin Maxwell (1914-1969) was a Scottish naturalist, writer, and photographer. He is best known for his work on otters, and for his books Harpoon at Venture and Ring of Bright Water. Maxwell was a passionate advocate for the protection of whales, and he played a key role in the establishment of the International Whaling Commission.
