In the fall of 2019, I embarked on a cross country road trip to explore the heart of high school football. I drove over 10,000 miles, visiting 25 states and attending 50 high school football games. Along the way, I met with coaches, players, parents, and fans to get a firsthand look at the passion, dedication, and camaraderie that make high school football so special.

I started my trip in Maine, where I attended a game between the Portland Bulldogs and the Cheverus Stags. The Bulldogs won a close game, 21-14, but the real story was the atmosphere. The stands were packed with fans of both teams, and the excitement was palpable. I could feel the passion for high school football in the air.

From Maine, I drove south to Massachusetts, where I attended a game between the St. John's Prep Eagles and the Xaverian Brothers Hawks. The Eagles won a decisive victory, 35-7, but the game was more than just a win or a loss. It was a celebration of the community. The stands were filled with families and friends, and the atmosphere was festive.

I continued my trip south, visiting high schools in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia. I saw some of the best high school football players in the country, and I was impressed by the level of competition. But what I was most impressed by was the sportsmanship and camaraderie that I witnessed.

In the Midwest, I attended games in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan. The football was just as good as in the East, but the atmosphere was different. The crowds were smaller, and the games were more relaxed. I got the sense that high school football was more of a community event in the Midwest.

I continued my trip west, visiting high schools in Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, and Utah. The football was still good, but the scenery was different. I drove through the Rocky Mountains, and I saw some of the most beautiful country in the United States. I also got a taste of the Western way of life.

I finished my trip in California, where I attended a game between the De La Salle Spartans and the Bishop Gorman Gaels. The Spartans won a close game, 24-21, but the game was more than just a win or a loss. It was a showcase of the best high school football in the country. The stands were packed with fans, and the excitement was electric.

My cross country road trip was an unforgettable experience. I got to see some of the best high school football in the country, and I got a firsthand look at the passion, dedication, and camaraderie that make high school football so special. I highly recommend taking a road trip to see high school football in person. It's an experience that you'll never forget.

Here are some of the highlights of my trip:

  • Attending the Army-Navy game at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
  • Visiting the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
  • Driving through the Rocky Mountains in Colorado.
  • Attending a game at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

If you're planning a cross country road trip to see high school football, here are some tips:

  • Plan your route in advance.
  • Book your hotel accommodations in advance.
  • Free Download tickets to the games you want to see in advance.
  • Be prepared for long drives.
  • Make sure your car is in good condition.
  • Have fun!
